RESEARCH SUMMARY
Mr. M.S. Gautam’s research work is concerned with the optimization of specific work output and thermal efficiency of the combined cycle at a different air-fuel ratio, pressure ratio and variable supplementary heating. In the present paper the pressure ratio has been taken in the range of 4 to 20 bar, air-fuel ratio 50, 55, 60, and 65 and supplementary heating from 0.1 to 0.5. It is observed that specific work output and thermal efficiency improve at the lower air-fuel ratio, pressure ratio and supplementary heating. In the present analysis effect of supplementary heating on the performance of combined cycle is discussed. It was desirable that at the (exhaust temp. of gas turbine t4a + gas turbine bypassed temp. t3) should be above 813 K; otherwise, the steam cycle would be inefficient resulting in lower combined cycle plant efficiency.

    RESEARCH SUMMARY
Mr. D. Deepak’s research work is concerned with the accurate determination of Hydrodynamic Coefficient of an underwater vehicle using CFD. The focus has been on accurate detailing of flows using CFD applying higher computational power, making it expensive. The derivatives obtained from the simulation of the quasi‐static drift of the body with zero degree stern and rudder angle at various angles of attack and angular velocities give the stability HDCs. Stern and rudder angle control submarine motion and the simulation of the quasi‐static drift of the body with non‐zero degree stern and rudder angles give the control HDCs. This approach allows the development of templates ‐ which mesh and execute a set of quasi‐static CFD simulations to arrive at the values of the stability and control HDCs using modest computational resources and cost ‐ for trajectory simulations of concept designs of underwater vehicles without expensive real-time CFD simulations of these motions.
