Today, the term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The Information Technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT Professionals are expected to perform a variety of roles that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks, managing operational databases and supporting large information systems.

Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics -based combination of computing and telecommunications. The department of Information Technology provides four-year (eight Semesters) engineering course leading to bachelors in Information Technology and it approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE, New Delhi, India).

The course is highly Lab oriented and contains the majors like Network Programming, Computer Graphics, Multimedia and Animation Technology, Rapid Application Development, Microprocessors and Interfaces, Web Technologies & Development, Software Engineering, Security of Information Systems, Wireless Communications, Data Warehousing and Data Mining. The Department also runs specializations Web Engineering, Network Security and Robotics (Expert Systems) through electives and value added courses department is equipped with a departmental library for quick reference. The department houses a small computer centre for departmental faculty and senior students.

To give opportunity to young engineers to lead the IT industry to new heights and prepare them to play leading roles in transforming the industry for betterment, be it through research, advanced development, teaching or entrepreneurship. To offer academically innovative but need based professional knowledge so as to expose the students to the context of humanities and social sciences with a view to equip them with holistic values and professionalism, societal sensitivity and to turn them into responsible communicators.
