CSE Department Organizes a Robotics Workshop
Computer Science Department, World College of Technology and Management, organized a beginners level workshop related to Robotics in association with Li2 Innovations Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore. The workshop was open to students from all engineering and Master of Computer Applications branches and all semesters. The initiative was undertaken by a team of final year CSE student headed by Nishant Arora, mentored by the CSE – Department HOD, Mrs. Pooja Sapra.
It was a two day workshop, conducted on August 26th and August 27th, 2011. Approximately 70 students signed up for the workshop and worked on pre-fabricated kits based on Atmel ATMega8 microcontroller and Arduino Programming Language. The two full day workshops taught students how to interface motors, sensors and other peripheral devices with a microcontroller. During the workshop students successfully programmed their kits to control LEDs, Motors and generate outputs from the sensors. By the end of the workshop, students successfully programmed the kits to behave as line-follower, edge detector, obstacle avoider, bump detector, and sumo-wrestler bot.
At first the students were skeptical about what the workshop was capable of, and whether they will be able to learn something, since their programming skills were not up to that level. But, after the workshop they seemed quite enlightened and thoroughly enjoyed the contents of the workshop. The CSE Department students plan to setup their own Robotics Lab in the college premises, where they can devote time towards research and creating projects related to Robotics. This Workshop was beneficial for the students and opened many arenas for other students.
