The Department has ten well-equipped laboratories and one central workshop, to give students
sufficient exposure to practical works compatible with the classroom learning and through
workshop exercise.
Automobile Engineering Workshop:
The General workshop comprises of fitting shop, carpentry shop, foundry shop, smithy shop and
welding shop. The facility is used mostly by first year students of all branches.
Major Equipments:
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab:
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab provides facilities for undergraduate teaching, final year projects and for research work leading to postgraduate degrees. This lab consists of several experimental setups for verifying the basic laws of fluid mechanics and some flow measuring devices. This lab houses experimental setups of a pelton wheel and a Francis turbine which facilitate the study and performance test of turbines. Experimental setups for several pumps also serve the same.
Major Equipments:
Basics OF Automobile Engineering Lab:
BME lab is well equipped with all the required experimental setups as per M.D.University syllabus. Lab used by first year Engineering students of all branches.
Major Equipments:
Engineering Graphics Aand Drawing Lab:
To provide students an extensive and intensive training course of Engineering Drawing which includes geometric and solid modeling, Isometric, Orthographic Projections and Sectional Views. Lab used by first year Engineering students of all branches.
Engineering Mechanics Lab:
The purpose of the Laboratory is to study the mechanical behavior of the structure and machines using theoretical, numerical and experimental methods and to provide teaching on this subject. Mechanical behavior is understood here to imply the statics, dynamics and stability of both rigid and deformable objects.
Major Equipments:
Material Sacience & Testing Lab
It comprises of modern equipments such as metallurgical microscopes, muffle furnace, hydraulic press, injection moulding and Polishing Machine etc.
Computer AIDED Design and Manufacturing Lab:
To provide students an extensive and intensive training course of a leading commercial CAD/CAM software (AUTOCAD and SolidWorks) with ample in-depth projects including geometric and solid modeling, computer graphics and visualization, virtual prototyping.
Strength of Material Lab:
This lab deals with the strength of a material i.e. its hardness, yield stress, tensile and compressive strength, toughness etc. This lab includes the machines by which the strength (impact, tensile, compressive) can be checked along with the variable parameters.
Major Equipments:
Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines Lab:
This subject imparts the concepts, principles, procedure, kinematics involved in different machine elements and mechanisms like Watt, Steering, Quick Return etc. It also includes the working kits of Governors, Balancing Equipment, gear, cam and follower, belt, flywheel, brake, dynamometer, clutch, etc. All of these are regarding the different mechanics going on in moving machine parts and their behavior while movement.
Heat Transfer Lab:
The lab is well equipped with appropriate apparatus explaining the principles of heat transfer. It includes the test rig of thermal conductivity, specific heat of air test rigs, Pin Fin Apparatus, Stephen Boltzmann Const. Apparatus, Heat Flux Apparatus etc.
Advanced CAD/CAM Lab:
This lab includes the CNC Lathe Machine Trainer and CNC Milling Machine Trainer that help the students work with actual CNC machines. It also has simulation software of Milling Machine. This lab contains 65 computers of well suited configuration and license softwares like AutoCAD, Inventor Series & Solid Works.
Automobile Engineering LAB:
This lab contains various working models and experimental setups like 2 Stroke and 4 Stroke Engines, Steering System, Suspension System, Electrical & Lighting System, Fuel Supply and Ignition System etc.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab:
This lab enables the students to know about various types of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems. This lab is equipped to perform the experiments including the performance and study of basic components used in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. The equipments include Refrigeration Test Rig, Cooler, Simple Vapour Compression System, Domestic Refrigerator, Ice Plant, Vapour Absorption Refrigeration System, Blower Test Rig, Air Conditioner and Cut Sections of different components.
The automobile engineers develop car bodies and buildups with aggregates like engines, clutches, gears and steerings. They have to design according to the postulations of aerodynamics and stylistics, they have to construct and calculate according the postulations of functionality, safety, the dreasing of resources and the economy. The department has following labs
1. Engines testing lab
The Engine Testing Lab helps the students to,
Explain the principles of systematic troubleshooting.
Identify the fundamental operating requirements of engines which means,
Proper Carburetion – correct proportion of clean, fresh fuel has to mix with combustion air
Correctly operating ignition system – strong ignition spark must be timed properly
Adequate Lubrication – correct amount of clean oil must coat engine components
Sufficient cooling – air that reaches engine should be less than 266 K hotter than ambient air.
Proper compression – at least 2-2.8 bar for starting and 6.2 bar during operation
Use service manuals and troubleshooting guides to locate tolerances, clearances, and specifications.
2. Fuel Cell Lab
The fuel cell laboratory provides advanced facilities to help the students to learn the concepts of fuel cell technology and advanced thermal engineering. Students are doing many projects regarding the fuel cell and thermal engineering.
3. Vehicle Servicing Lab
This lab deals with the various parts of the vehicle and to diagnose if they are functioning properly. The student learns how to safely and correctly perform basic, everyday vehicle servicing and simple maintenance tasks, as well as how to determine when the vehicle needs the attention of a skilled mechanic. Also provide students a good environment to understand the technology know-how, testing, service and set-up of modern motor vehicles.
